Making the pen stand: The pieces were cut out using my home made table saw and glued together using fevicol. The edges were rounded with a round over bit using my home made router table.
The lettering was cut out of one side teak veneer using a proxxon scroll saw.
Finish : Normal varnish wiped away immediately.
Excellent work. I particularly like the finish.

ReplyDeleteFor finishing, when you say normal varnish, is this the 'sheenlac' liquid that's available in Indian stores/paint shops ?

ReplyDeleteNo this is not the sheenlac liquid that is available in white bottles. That is some kind of polish. Sheenlac polish dries in about half an hour. It is some kind of lacquer based polish. I have seen many carpenters use it. It provides a glossy thin polish coat.
Varnish on the other hand dries in about 8 hrs. This is the 'usual' varnish that I use. It is available from Asian paints and Sheenlac. It is branded as 'touchwood etc'.
The best finish I have found is polyurethane varnish. Asian paints sells this. It is about three or four times the cost of usual varnish but dries very fast. It is very good for DIY use.
